A Handbook For Catch and Release Gardening
submitted by Migier Tagdigirova
As a producer of organically grown food products, I am always searching
for more environmentally-friendly methods of growing and using the fruit
of the Earth.
Recently, I was inspired by the incredible methods of catch-and-release
fishermen. This inspiration led me to come up with a wonderful new
organic produce method. I call this method Catch-and-Release Veggie
Farming. Here is how you do it:
1.Plant a small variety of vegetables such as carrots, brussels sprouts,
and legumes using proper organic-farming methods.
2.Wait patiently as they grow.
3.When vegetables are fully grown, harvest them taking care to handle
them properly.
4.Select the largest, most beautiful vegetables and photo-graph them
so that in the future you may look upon the photos all misty-eyed
remembering what it was like to harvest them and most importantly,
have a visual aid for those "big veggie" stories you are so fond of
telling to your buddies over an organic smoothie.
5.Replace all vegetables in the ground in their original places so
that other farmers can come along and enjoy them.
6.Watch sadly as all the veggies die and rot.
7.Rejoice as veggies have just fertilized the ground so you can grow
more veggies!
I have found that this is a great process because, number one, it is
a regenerating process! It will preserve itself forever!
